Purohit, President, Council of Architecture, expressed that he has been extremely happy to announce that the Council of Architecture is going to conduct NATA 2024 examination in a new format considering the opinion of the students, teachers, industry through nationwide survey. He mentioned that this year exam not only keeping in mind the convenience and creativity of students but also keeping with the pace of the current trends and challenges faced by the professional architects.

Who is Prof. Abhay V. Purohit?

Prof. Abhay V. Purohit has 30 years of Academic and Professional experience. Teaching since 1989 in subjects like Town Planning, Professional Practice, Design, History of Architecture, Construction. He is professional in Master Planning, Housing, Projects for Local Self Governments, Institutional Buildings, Banks and Hospitals. After graduating from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology in Bachelor of Architecture between 1980 – 1985, he completed his master’s degree in Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in City Planning between 1985 – 1987. later he joined as Professor and Director at Priyadarshini Institute of Architecture & Design Studies PIADS, Nagpur in September 1997 and worked for 12 years. Currently he is working as the Principal and Director at Institute of Design Education and Architectural Studies (IDEAS), Nagpur since August 2009. He has been elected as President, Council of Architecture for the term 2023-25. Ministry of Education, Government of India conducts the elections for President and Vice President of COA, Council of Architecture.

Council of Architecture is an autonomous statutory body of Ministry of Education, Government of India constituted under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972. It is responsible for registering architects, setting education standards, and regulating the architecture profession nationwide.

What is NATA?

NATA, the National Aptitude Test in Architecture, has been conducted by the Council of Architecture (COA) since 2006. NATA is governed by the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, and the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020, both approved by the Central Government.

How is NATA 2024 different from other entrance exams, and what does it assess?

Unlike other entrance exams, NATA is an aptitude test assessing innate abilities for Architecture through cognitive skills, visual perception, aesthetic sensitivity, logical reasoning, and critical thinking, besides knowledge acquired over the years.

Can a candidate take multiple NATA 2024 tests, and how are scores considered?

Yes, candidates can appear for up to 3 NATA tests. If appearing for 2 tests, the best score is valid. If attempting 3 tests, the valid score is the average of the two best scores.
